Frequently Asked Questions

  • Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a collaborative process between you and a trained mental health professional. It provides a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, helping you gain insights into challenges and develop coping strategies. Psychotherapy can help address various concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and life transitions. It empowers you to make positive changes, improve your overall well-being, and lead a more fulfilling life.

  • At Sweetgrass Psychiatry, we offer a diverse range of evidence-based psychotherapy approaches to cater to your unique needs. These include Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, family therapy, play therapy, couples therapy, and supportive psychotherapy. Each approach has its own focus and techniques, and we'll work with you to determine the most suitable option for your specific concerns and goals.

  • During a psychotherapy session, you'll have the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings openly with your therapist. They will listen attentively, ask questions to deepen their understanding, and offer guidance and support. The specific focus of each session will depend on your individual needs and the chosen therapeutic approach. You may explore past experiences, current challenges, or future aspirations, all while developing coping skills and strategies to navigate life's complexities.

  • Yes, we understand that convenience and accessibility are essential for many individuals seeking mental health care. That's why we offer teletherapy options for psychotherapy. Through secure video conferencing, you can engage in therapy sessions from the comfort of your own home or any private location with internet access. Teletherapy provides the same level of care and support as in-person sessions, offering flexibility and convenience.

  • The duration of psychotherapy varies depending on individual needs and treatment goals. Some individuals may benefit from short-term therapy lasting a few weeks or months, while others may engage in longer-term therapy for more complex or ongoing concerns. During your initial consultation, we'll discuss your treatment goals and develop a personalized plan that outlines the anticipated duration and frequency of sessions.

MINDFULNESS

MINDFULNESS is a practice of warmth, easefulness & space…

And it is certainly not always easy. We want to help.

More and more research is coming out about the physical, mental and emotional benefits of the mindfulness practice, yet many of us struggle to realistically incorporate it into our lives. We know we should practice, but the pressures of daily life feel at odds with its slow, quiet pace. These resources are meant to simplify the mindfulness practice and help both new and experienced practitioners incorporate it into their modern lives.

Join Kerry Wischusen, LPCA, our local mindfulness expert, on your path to healing. Call (843) 800-1303 to schedule an in person or virtual appointment with her.
