Dr. Hashemi is a Harvard-trained physician specializing in general adult psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. He began his academic career at Northwestern University where he majored in Economics. After two years in the corporate world, he discovered his passion for patient care and earned his medical degree from Brown University in Providence, RI.
Dr. Hashemi completed his psychiatry residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he developed expertise in medical management and received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), couples therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). He also had the opportunity to train in psychiatric neuromodulation techniques, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). During his final year of residency, he was honored to serve as Chief Resident.
Following his residency, Dr. Hashemi completed fellowship training at Harvard Medical School (Massachusetts General, McLean, and Brigham & Women’s Hospitals) specializing in addiction psychiatry. Outside of clinical care, he also taught medical students, psychiatry residents, and fellows.
An active researcher, Dr. Hashemi has published peer-reviewed manuscripts and presented at national conferences on topics such as anxiety, ADHD, cannabis use, and tobacco use. He has also reviewed submissions for leading national psychiatry journals.
Dr. Hashemi has developed a passion for combining the science of evidence-based care with holistic approaches that align with the individuals’ values and personal goals. He is dedicated to collaborating with patients to create personalized treatment plans that enhance their lives.
