What Causes Depression? Hint: It's Not a Chemical Imbalance.

It’s not as simple as a chemical imbalance. There are hundreds of factors that influence our mood and affective states. At Sweetgrass Psychiatry, we adopt the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model as causes for mental health problems and as the solution. Therapy is always the mainstay of treatment and medications can help. But we also need to engage you with what brings you the most joy and contentment. For me, that is spending quality time with family, petting one of my many dogs, being engaged in self care, sleeping, connecting with my personal faith, and exercising. And maybe some shopping too…
